Bielska Cave + Old Smokovec

Wycieczka - Jaskinia Bielska

in the High Tatras, which you can enter!

Bielska Cave, the only cave

Bielska Cave is located in the High Tatras in Slovakia, on the northern slope of Kobylý Peak. It is considered a national natural monument and is characterized by an exceptionally rich dripstone formation, where we can admire interesting limestone forms, stalactites, stalagmites, and draperies. The entrance to Bielska Cave is situated at an altitude of 972 m above sea level. It has been known to local residents since ancient times, but it was not until 1881 that three inhabitants of Biała Spiska decided to venture inside. A year after this event, the cave was partially opened to visitors. In 1896, the cave was electrically lit, allowing for further exploration, resulting in the discovery of additional sections totaling 3829 m horizontally and 168 m vertically. In 1979, Bielska Cave was recognized as a protected natural monument.

TRIP PROGRAM - BIELSKA CAVE

DESCRIPTION OF ATTRACTION - BIELSKA CAVE

Wycieczka do Jaskini Bielskiej

During the tour, which lasts 70 minutes, we overcome a height difference of 125 m, and the entire available route for tourists is 1370 m and consists of over 800 steps. The route leads through corridors and chambers, where we can see small lakes and waterfalls. The Bielska Cave also consists of chambers, which even have their own names: The House of Great Waterfalls, Golden Lake, Hell, Long Corridor, Robber's, Palm Room, Concert Hall, Hunger Abyss, Cactus Grove.

When going on a trip, it is important to remember about appropriate clothing, as the temperature in the cave ranges between 5 and 6.3 °C, and the relative humidity is 90-97%. To increase the attractiveness of this place, in the 1930s, the lower part of the cave was closed off to keep it constantly filled with ice. The result of this was frost weathering of the drips and rocks in the mountain parts. It is also worth adding that throughout the year, the temperature ranges from -2.2 to +5.1 °C.

 BIELSKA CAVE CONCERT VENUE

An interesting place in the Bielska Cave is one of the chambers called the Concert Hall, as this location has excellent acoustics. For this reason, classical music concerts have been organized here for some time. One can also hear interesting melodies that arise from the sound of water droplets falling onto the surface of the underground lake.

Lake Szczyrbskie

Second stage of the trip:

Szczyrbskie Lake is located in the High Tatras, it is the second largest lake on the Slovak side and is situated at an altitude of 1346 m above sea level on what is known as the Szczyrbskie Terrace. This lake is often compared to the well-known Morskie Oko. It lies at a similar altitude, but it is smaller, with a surface area of 19.76 ha.

On the southern shore of the lake, we can find a wooden footbridge, referred to by some as a pier. Standing on it, we can admire the beautiful panorama of the Tatras, and nearby there is a dock for kayaks and boats, which returned to the lake in 2008. For about 100 years, they were a tourist attraction in this area.

Jezioro Szczyrbskie wycieczka jednodniowa

Lake Szczyrbskie

The path around the lake is a great idea for spending our free time, which we have a full 2 hours for. This is more than enough to cover the distance around it. This area is magical; in addition to beautiful views, it also delights with the richness of mountain vegetation. The Bielska Cave and the Lake create an interesting combination of two distinct places. Each of them presents the beauty of nature in a different way.

"The lake is the most beautiful and striking element of the landscape. It is the eye of the earth, into which, by peering, we measure the depth of our own nature."
