DESCRIPTION OF ATTRACTIONS CRACOW AND WIELICZKA TOUR

Wawel Cathedral in Cracow

Wawel Cathedral

We will begin our tour of Cracow at Wawel, which is a Polish national and cultural symbol. The Wawel Cathedral, in particular, plays a significant role in the history of the Polish state. For four hundred years, it served as the church of Polish rulers. Starting with Władysław Łokietek, all Polish kings were crowned in the Wawel Cathedral, with the exception of Stanisław Leszczyński and Stanisław August Poniatowski. The cathedral is also the resting place of the most distinguished Polish national heroes.

From Wawel, we will walk through the Cracow Planty to the oldest part of Jagiellonian University, Collegium Maius, and to the Main Square, which was the largest medieval square in Europe. On the Main Square, you will see the most characteristic monuments of Cracow, such as the Cloth Hall, the monument of Adam Mickiewicz, the Town Hall Tower, and the old townhouses surrounding the square. We will also visit St. Mary's Basilica, famous for its beautiful Gothic altar created by Master Wit Stwosz. From the church tower, you can hear the St. Mary's bugle call, which is played every hour.

Salt Mine

The Wieliczka

The Wieliczka Salt Mine is one of the most precious landmarks in Poland, visited annually by over a million tourists from all over the world. The mine's history dates back to the 13th century. It is the only continuously operating mining facility in the world, from the Middle Ages to the present day. In 1978, the Wieliczka Salt Mine, along with Wawel Castle, the Old Town, and the historic sites of Kazimierz, were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
